Design Morphine Generative Morphologies V4.0 is an International Workshop intended for Architects, students of Architecture and urbanism, professional designers, and artists exploring Advanced computational and post digital methodologies of design at an Urban scale of a City.
As the advancement of Architecture and design is steering towards an era of computation, the abundance of big data has laid an unexhausted arena of possibilities for generative systems. We intend to analyze the different evolutionary and self-organizational patterns and growth of an Urban contexture, where the city becomes the key and its constituent elements formulate themselves as the design drivers. Participants study and analyze the Urban setting, Velachery at Chennai, India, from where they extract visual and cultural data and manifest them into adaptive Architectural solutions through the generative processes that grow in response to their contextual environment.
The tutors Vamsi Krishna and Shridhar formulated the brief with an approach that resonates on a fine balance of algorithmic form finding and a part- humanistic approach of crafting. The participants are empowered with an advanced design workflow that is applicable to be translated from a macro to micro-scale in Architecture and design. The workshop works with the domain of producing a Portfolio ready project by the completion of 8 days.
Design Morphine Generative Morphologies V4.0 computationally addresses “Morphologic Metropolis”, a Growth and the cultural data-driven phenomenon of the city as an ecological organism adapting to an environmental stimulus.
The participants worked in teams and produced a diverse set of 8 projects as a result of the 8 intensive days. The projects are a series of attempts to address and reflect the discretely inherent cultural components that mutate and evolves in a digital realm acquiring new formal and spatial characteristics. The resultant architectural projects do not limit to a pure form based exploration but further extends to the level of textural and surface articulations, which echo in harmony with the surrounding Urban fabric.
