The project aims to find an optimal ground between Cross Pollination and Individual Productivity. Cross Pollination as a Silo-busting working environment where creativity and innovation are encouraged by maximizing interaction. Individual productivity as associated with focused deadline work and privacy. My project is situated on the site of the Bower, a tower situated in the Silicon Roundabout.
There is a general assumption that individuality and productivity correlate. Already today, a more complex understanding is starting to be adopted, one that encourages pollination within the working environment. Nevertheless, such agenda fails to maintain the advantages stored in the former, individual-oriented environment, while enhancing the individual productivity space with residential properties, I believe that an optimal ground can be reached. My proposal is an attempt to create a working environment which best describes human nature, a place of choice between individual work and collective work.
Fractal is a tool I used to acquire spatial configuration and geometry. The fractal logic was also adopted for the emerging thresholds in the spatial organization. The ultimate condition is for residents to join the office space. Like the spatial organization, thresholds should support this but at the same time provide an opportunity to maintain individual productivity either for the sake of privacy or for focused deadline work. To maximize interaction and transparency within the building a play of height and void was introduced.
The reconfiguration of the bower in a highly dynamic and growing environment would offer a dynamic working environment with private offices connected to residential spaces in the boundaries of the building. Placing the residential units in the outer envelope will also communicate with the existing environment.
