| Project Report:
The technological, socio-economic alterations ushered in at the end of the nineteenth century, led to the proliferation of images in our environments. This mediated reality, has expanded its canvas over time, deeply affecting the human perception and behaviors. Interplay of mediums is a Design presentation and Theory based workshop that aims to empower the students with contemporary design strategies and modes of communicating design. The Workshop questions the status of Architectural drawings and Images (rendering), through the mediations of Virtual reality and image constructions through various tools.
The role of the 21st century architects & designers doesn’t limit to formulating of conventional drawings such as plans and sections but extends forward to the construction of the fiction/the environment surrounding the Project. The architects hold the responsibility to conceive the ambience, the fictions intertwined and the milieu. Fredric Jameson’s critic on Post-modernism by early 1980s, makes it apparent that culture no longer tried to “make it new”. Rather, endless recycling and quoting of the past media content, artistic styles and forms became the new “International style” and the new cultural logic of the society.
The culture, as Lev Manovich emphasizes, rather than assembling more media registrations of reality, emerging cultures are now busy re-working, recombining and analyzing the already accumulated media material. This remix-ability leads to a new course of Architectural and design processes, through the access and availability of hybrid mediations. The students shall engage in a pedagogical design agenda, by working in teams of 3 or 4, and producing an Architectural narrative and communicate their design by the end of the workshop.
