Style or History?
When a story is told, the script is always followed by a place, the historic weight of the place gives relevance to the transcendence of the story. With time, some stories had forgotten the importance of its transcendence in time, they have forgotten that their content has the same weight as the place they´ve been written, they´ve convinced themselves by the influence of fashion and style to give an empty message, without character, generic. The result of a story without content is oblivion.
The talk about architectural events, has torn into formal terms, fashion and style, histories dressed up by the last tendency just to distract the reader from the lack of content.
The dialogue that this building wants to achieve goes towards the constructive tradition and the making of places. Thinking about it with spirit and character, filled with immeasurable places, to transcend into the memory of whom who lives in it. The structural rigor, the harmonic rhythm, the surprise in the transitions, the mystery of its language and the memory of space, are just some of the qualities that classifies a building as timeless, for its context and the habitant.
- The scale of the city. The historic weight that a building may have, is defined by its situation within the context. All the intersections in the Bucarelli fountain, make a physical milestone towards Paseo de la Reforma. In this scale, a group of 5 buildings are arranged to exist as one whole. The heights of each buildings honor their surroundings, with the exception of a 40 stories tower, that stands out within the others to be understood as an urban milestone.
- The public scale. The gap within each tower, draws a huge opening and public space, joining Reforma, Bucarelli e Iturbide in an encounter place. In the emptiness is where the public and urban character of the complex lies. It allows the reading of its elements and the honesty of the building’s function.
- The human scale. The experience of the habitant is always followed by transit and delays, involving the time and rhythm of “day to day” basis to the spaces for transition and shelter, where the people meet and communicate in the space, public and private. The language of the facades help to understand the program, the lower stories talk about an urban character, where the individual meet its city. While the levels are going up, the structure responds to the necessary effort and gets thinner in order to expose the views and rediscover the city in a different mindset.
The project reaffirms the urban and public identity of the city, remembering its tradition and linking it with a future vision.
